The Guild of Prostitutes, Copulatrices and Working Women began in Ankh-Morpork at the instigation of Mrs Sandra Battye, whose fledgling trade guild needed an eye-catching name after the most appropriate one was discovered to be taken. Lord Vetinari was happy to approve the New Guild and Mr Slant was pleased to demonstrate no legal impediment to the name being formally taken up.
